Jessica's Artsy Fun Time Summary

     My name is Jessica Galvin (from the 11:00 MWF class of MM-199) and I'll be showing all of you some fun art blogs. Whether you're the next Picasso or the beginner who draws lopsided stick figures, I hope to create a variety of art topics so that everyone has something to gain.

    We will approach some creative, underrated varieties of arts and crafts. I'll share a set of drawing tips for three different skill levels of artists: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. I would like to include a price analysis to compare the quality of differently priced art supplies. You are college students, so protecting that wallet is important. I can give my opinions on where the mediums are worth the money or if you're overpaying for a fancy brand.

     I believe art is the most beautiful impact that humankind can make on the world. It is my firm opinion that anybody can be an artist with a few simple tools and a creative heart. Whether you are a fellow art enthusiast or just bored, I hope you follow along with me.

    Good intro post! Keeping it short and sweet can help captivate the audience. I would consider taking out the part about our class, but it's up to you. I'm excited to keep learning from your blog!

Drawing Tips for Advanced Artists

     How's everybody doing? These following tips are for those of us who have been drawing (or painting, sketching, coloring etc.) for a while. Many talented self-taught artists may have missed these little tricks, but no worries! They are easy to incorporate yet make a world of difference. You may have heard of the uncanny valley; it refers to the unsettling feeling of something that is almost identical to humankind, yet not. In character design personification tends to make a nonhuman character more likable, but that charming effect suddenly reverses when it becomes similar enough to a real human. People may be unable to tell what is off about the character, but there is an uneasiness to the situation. When you draw a person out in the far distance, their facial features are blurrier than somebody close up. This means that if you keep sharp details in the background, your person can become uncanny. Drawing Tips for Intermediate Artists

     Hello again, fellow artists. Last time we looked at some tips for beginners. This time it's for those of us with a medium amount or experience. Maybe you've had a couple art classes before, or maybe you're the type who is constantly doodling. The following tips are aimed at your level. As always, sharing your art is recommended and encouraged. When you draw something, unless it is entirely abstract, it tends to have a light source. Sometimes it is a very bright light, like the mid-day sun. Sometimes the light source is very subtle, or maybe there are multiple sources. I find it helpful to lightly draw a little sun to keep track of the direction where the light comes from . Now that we have our light source(s) accounted for, we can work on our shadows.
